For windows there are tools like, Daemon tools or Magic Disk to mount ISO images as drive and access the contents without burning them a CD or DVD.
This can be achieved in Ubuntu with the "GMountISO" Tool.
To install with Synaptic:
Commandline Install:
sudo apt-get install gmountiso
Using GmountISO:
Access the GMountISO from Applications->SystemTools Menu.
Select the ISO Image and the directory to which it needs to be mounted. Click Mount. If it asks for password , enter it. The disk will be mounted in the appropriate directory. There will also be an disk icon in the desktop for quick access!
This works for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala as well.
